Rugby Union Today: Super Rugby Team of the Week

Colin Newboult

Another busy day in the rugby union game as we look back at the weekend’s action in Super Rugby and name our best XV from the matches that took place.

What’s on the site

It was semi-final weekend in Super Rugby where there was an impressive victory for the Jaguares and they are well-represented in our Team of the Week with seven nominations.

That competition is also discussed in ‘who’s hot and who’s not,’ which talks about the the outstanding game between the Crusaders and Hurricanes, as well as the Brumbies’ disappointing performance in Buenos Aires.

Finally, take a look at our ongoing ‘My World Cup hero’ feature, which moves onto one of the French greats in Serge Blanco, who scored that famous try against Australia in 1987.

What’s in the news

Sergio Parisse has found a new club after leaving Stade Francais on Friday, with Toulon moving quickly to snap up the Italian legend on a one-year deal.

Elsewhere, two Crusaders players have been cleared over misconduct allegations following a couple of incidents which took place on their South Africa tour earlier in the year.

What’s on social media

The Women’s Rugby Super Series is currently going on in San Diego between the top nations in the world, but this Twitter thread does not make for pretty reading in terms of how they’ve been treated and how it’s been organised.

Warning: the thread contains some strong language.

What’s on TV

Only Super Rugby remains before all the focus shifts to the international game and Saturday’s final between the Crusaders and Jaguares will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
