Rugby Union Today: Six Nations previews and Lions exclusive

Adam Kyriacou

Another busy day in rugby union as we publish our Six Nations match previews plus there is a Jeremy Guscott exclusive.

What’s on the site

The Six Nations round kicks off with England v Italy before it’s Scotland v Wales to end Saturday’s action. On Sunday there’s Ireland against France.

Former British and Irish Lions centre Jeremy Guscott has given Planet Rugby his opinion on the travel issues surrounding the tour to South Africa.

Elsewhere, there will be no relegation in the Premiership this season with 2021/22’s campaign seeing 13 teams competing in the English top flight.

What’s in the news

Ireland will be without three huge players in the shape of Johnny Sexton, Conor Murray and James Ryan for their Six Nations meeting with France.

Speaking of their opponents, they also announced their team today and make two changes as Damian Penaud and Anthony Jelonch come in to start.

What’s on social media

We thoroughly enjoyed this tackle on the streets of America. Fine technique as she brings him down, really getting the shoulder into his mid-section.

What’s on TV

The Six Nations continues on Saturday with England and Italy opening proceedings at Twickenham on ITV. Scotland and Wales then go head-to-head on the BBC before Ireland and France collide on Sunday. That game at the Aviva Stadium will be on ITV.

There are also domestic matters in the northern hemisphere as the English Premiership continues on BT Sport. It starts with a huge West Country derby as bottom takes on top when Gloucester and Bristol Bears face off at Kingsholm in what will be a thriller.

Finally, two PRO14 contests have been rearranged for this weekend as Dragons host Edinburgh and Benetton visit Glasgow Warriors on Premier Sports.
