Rugby Union Today: Six Nations previews

Another busy day in the rugby union game as we preview all three matches that are taking place in Round One of the Six Nations this weekend.

What’s on the site

France and England go head-to-head in Le Crunch on Sunday and we have previewed the contest, dissecting the main talking points ahead of the encounter in Saint-Denis.

We have also done the same for the two Saturday contests as Wales face Italy, looking to get their title defence off to a solid start, before Ireland take on Scotland in Andy Farrell’s first game in charge.

Elsewhere, there are several other features on the site, including a betting preview and a quiz, which has 20 questions on last year’s tournament.

Finally, the Chiefs opened the 2020 Super Rugby campaign with a come-from-behind victory over the Blues. You can check out highlights from that game, as well as the Brumbies v Reds encounter.

What’s in the news

England have named a couple of surprises in their squad to face France with flanker Tom Curry starting at number eight following Billy Vunipola’s injury and Charlie Ewels getting the nod over George Kruis at lock.

Meanwhile, Munster have made two significant additions ahead of the 2020/21 season after announcing the signings of South African internationals RG Snyman and Damian de Allende. Irish-qualified full-back Matt Gallagher will also join the province when his contract at Saracens expires.

Not long to go now before Wales and Italy begin the 2020 Six Nations.

What’s on TV

The biggest annual international tournament returns on Saturday and it will once again be split between the BBC and ITV. This weekend, the former will show Wales versus Italy and France taking on England while the latter has Ireland’s clash with Scotland at the Aviva Stadium.

Super Rugby also begins and it starts on Friday as the Auckland-based Blues take on the Chiefs on Sky Sports. That channel will also broadcast the World Rugby Sevens Series, which comes from Sydney this weekend.
