Another busy day in the rugby union game as we looked back and handed out our gongs – good and bad – to a number of worthy recipients.

What’s on the site

It is award season at Planet Rugby as we honour some of the best and worst of 2018, including the try of the year, mess of the year and, of course, player of the year.

Elsewhere, there is a quiz on the weekend’s action in the Champions Cup and Sevens, while analyst Sam Larner returns to run the rule over Leicester Tigers’ defence this season.

What’s in the news

Johnny Sexton has completed a fine year for both province and country by signing a new contract with the IRFU. After picking up the World Player of the Year award, Sexton will now stay in the country until at least June 2021.

Continuing in Ireland and there is talk that Stuart Lancaster could join the national team set-up following the 2019 World Cup in Japan when Andy Farrell takes the reins.

Finally, there has been one in and one out on the coaching front with the Bulls announcing that Pote Human will take charge of the team for the 2019 Super Rugby campaign, while Bernard Jackman has reportedly left the Dragons.
