Joe Marler and Danny Cipriani were the headline inclusions for England’s World Cup training squad. Marler retired from international rugby in September while Cipriani has not been selected this season, despite his impressive form for Gloucester.

Both of those players last featured for the Red Rose in June 2018 as England defeated South Africa 25-10 in Newlands, and that is our Video of the Week.

Elsewhere, it is the Super Rugby final on Saturday and we look at the main stories and key battles from the Crusaders v Jaguares encounter in Super charged.

What’s in the news

Christian Lealiifano’s remarkable story continued as the Brumbies fly-half was named in the Australia squad for their opening Rugby Championship encounter against South Africa. Lealiifano was diagnosed with Leukaemia three years ago but has battled back to fight off the illness and get back to the top of the game.

Finally, the teams were named for the Super Rugby showpiece event with Mitchell Dunshea and Braydon Ennor starting for the Crusaders, and Ramiro Moyano coming into the Jagaures’ XV.

There was plenty of reaction to Joe Marler’s return to the England squad, including from the loosehead’s club Harlequins…

What’s on TV

Only Super Rugby remains before all the focus shifts to the international game and Saturday’s final between the Crusaders and Jaguares will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
