Leinster’s James Lowe scores a try during the Guinness Pro14 final at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

Another busy day in the rugby union game as New Zealand-born wing James Lowe was called up to the Ireland squad for the Autumn Nations Cup.

What’s on the site

Leinster wing James Lowe could make his Ireland debut next week after being selected in their squad for the Autumn Nations Cup. The New Zealander qualifies on residency having spent three years in the country and boss Andy Farrell has immediately brought him into the fold.

Continuing with the Irish theme and fly-half Johnny Sexton has apologised for his reaction to being substituted during their Six Nations game against France on Saturday. Many felt it undermined Farrell’s authority and Sexton says that it has all been sorted between him and the head coach.

Finally, our ‘My rugby hero’ series continues with Stephen Larkham, who is considered one of the greatest to have ever played for Australia. The former fly-half was particularly influential in the 1999 World Cup semi-final when his remarkable drop-goal helped them secure their place in the showpiece event.

What’s in the news

Scotland have been dealt a blow with fly-halves Finn Russell and Adam Hastings both ruled out of the Autumn Nations Cup. Gregor Townsend also gave a squad update, with Sean Maitland and Sam Hidalgo-Clyne both called up.

Elsewhere, the teams were named for the fourth Bledisloe Cup Test, with Akira Ioane making his All Blacks debut and Australia springing a surprise by naming Reece Hodge at fly-half.

Finally, South African Stephan Lewies has been handed the Harlequins captaincy for the forthcoming season. He replaces Chris Robshaw, who has signed a deal to play in the USA.
