Rugby Union Today: Tigers legend leaves and Test previews
Another busy day in the rugby union game as we bring you news of Geordan Murphy’s departure from Leicester Tigers plus our international previews ahead of the Autumn Nations Cup and Tri Nations ties.
What’s on the site
After 23 years at Welford Road, Murphy has left the Tigers with immediate effect as the Premiership side make a major move at the top of the club.
We have previews for New Zealand against Argentina, Scotland’s trip to Italy and England’s clash with Georgia, but France v Fiji has been cancelled.
If that’s not enough there’s talking points ahead of the Twickenham meeting and team news ahead of the PRO14 game at the Sportsground on Saturday.
What’s in the news
In the Premiership, Gloucester have announced the signing of former Exeter Chiefs second-row Ollie Atkins, who arrives ahead of the new campaign.
EPCR have released the fixtures for all rounds of the new Champions Cup season, with holders Exeter Chiefs kicking off at home to Glasgow Warriors.

We can’t believe this was 10 years ago. What a great try from Chris Ashton as he scorched away with great facials against Australia way back in 2010.
One of the greatest tries ever seen at Twickenham, scored #OnThisDay a decade ago by @ChrisAshton1 🙌 pic.twitter.com/TSMOG8WiEN

What’s on TV
The Autumn Nations Cup begins this weekend and most of the matches will be shown on Amazon Prime. Channel 4 also have a few games, with Ireland v Wales the one being broadcast on the free-to-air station on Friday.
Meanwhile, despite the completion of the Bledisloe Cup, there is still plenty of southern hemisphere action as New Zealand take on Argentina on Sky Sports.
Finally, it is the sixth round of the PRO14 on Premier Sports, with Leinster’s clash against Edinburgh the standout fixture.
