Another busy day in the rugby union game as Israel Folau and Rugby Australia announced that they have come to an agreement over their dispute.

Israel Folau and Rugby Australia have reached a settlement following the former full-back’s sacking for posting anti-gay messages on social media. Folau had sought AUS$14million dollars in compensation after claiming unfair dismissal, but the matter has now been resolved.

Elsewhere, the British and Irish Lions have confirmed their schedule for the 2021 tour to South Africa. Two of the Tests will take place in Johannesburg while they will only have five games to prepare for the three matches against the world champions.

Finally, this week’s Loose Pass delves into the murky waters of World Rugby’s eligibility laws. The piece comes following Wales’ selection of New Zealanders Willis Halaholo and Johnny McNicholl, who qualify on residency grounds.

What’s in the news

The match officials have been announced for the 2020 Six Nations tournament with Luke Pearce taking charge of the opening encounter between Wales and Italy on February 1.

Scotland flanker John Barclay unfortunately won’t be taking part in that competition after the 33-year-old announced his retirement from the international game. The Scottish stalwart earned 76 caps for the Murrayfield outfit and featured in the recent Rugby World Cup.

Finally, Bristol continue to build nicely after announcing that back three player Charles Piutau has signed a new contract with the West Country team. The New Zealander was linked with a move away but director of rugby Pat Lam has convinced him to remain at Ashton Gate.

After a week’s break, the Champions Cup returns and BT Sport will once again show all the matches from Round Three. There are several intriguing pool games, including Northampton Saints versus Leinster, Munster taking on Saracens and Toulouse hosting Montpellier.
