Another busy day in the rugby union game as Dan McFarland was appointed Ulster’s new head coach, succeeding the soon-to-be departing Jono Gibbes.

Dan McFarland will become the Ulster head coach next season but there is some confusion as to whether it will be at the start of the campaign or in mid-January, when his notice period with Scotland ends.

England have suffered yet another blow with George Kruis being ruled out of the tour to South Africa. The lock is set to have surgery on a troublesome ankle when the domestic season ends in late May.

On the transfer front, outstanding Lions back-rower Jaco Kriel has signed for Gloucester, while Reds wing Eto Nabuli has joined Bordeaux-Begles.

Ireland legend Donncha O’Callaghan played his final match on Saturday, featuring for Worcester Warriors as they thrashed Harlequins in the Premiership, and there have been tributes aplenty for the 2009 Grand Slam winner.

What’s on TV

It is the final weekend of the regular Premiership season and, although the play-offs have already been decided, Champions Cup qualification is still in the balance. BT Sport will therefore show Sale Sharks’ clash against Leicester Tigers on Saturday where four points separates the seventh and fifth placed sides.

On Sky Sports, they have all six Super Rugby matches with the Hurricanes’ encounter against the Lions the standout match.
