Rugby Union Today: Another Six Nations game postponed

Colin Newboult

Another busy day in the rugby union game as Italy’s Six Nations clash against England was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

What’s on the site

Following the postponement of Ireland’s match with Italy, another Six Nations encounter will have to be rearranged after the clash between the Azzurri and England was called off.

There are plenty of games going ahead, however, including the one which involves Japanese side the Sunwolves. Their contest with the Brumbies has been moved to Australia and that topic, as well as other interesting subjects, are discussed in Super charged.

Finally, we preview the Premiership, where Lood de Jager and Sean O’Brien will make their debuts for Sale Sharks and London Irish respectively, and the PRO14.

What’s in the news

England have named their team for this weekend’s clash against Wales at Twickenham and it includes two injury-returnees with Mark Wilson and Anthony Watson selected in the XV. The visitors have also bolstered their squad with Josh Navidi and Liam Williams in the side to take on the Red Rose.

Meanwhile, Akira Ioane will make his first start for the Blues this season after Leon MacDonald decided to rest the impressive Hoskins Sotutu for Saturday’s encounter.

What’s on social media

You have to feel for Italy’s Sergio Parisse. The legendary number eight delayed his international retirement because of Typhoon Hagibis, which forced the cancellation of Italy’s game against the All Blacks in the World Cup, only for something else to deny him the opportunity to say goodbye next weekend.

What’s on TV

It is the penultimate round of the Six Nations this week, albeit the Ireland v Italy game has been postponed, where ITV will show England’s encounter against Wales and BBC will broadcast the Scotland v France match.

Domestic action in Europe continues with BT televising Worcester v Northampton and Bristol v Harlequins from England.

In the PRO14, there is one game scheduled on Premier Sports as the Dragons take on Benetton in the rearranged contest.

Finally, Super Rugby continues on Sky Sports with the Sunwolves opening proceedings against the Brumbies on Friday.
