Robinson dreams of Murrayfield finish
Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson insists his side need to get off to a flying start if they are to progress in this season's Heineken Cup.
Edinburgh coach Andy Robinson insists his side need to get off to a flying start if they are to progress in Heineken Cup 2009.
The capital club have only made it out of the group stages on one occasion – when they reached the quarter-finals five years ago.
And having been drawn with Magners League champions Leinster, 2007 Heineken Cup winners Wasps and French side Castres this time, Edinburgh will face a tough task to progress.
However, although Robinson has confidence in his side to compete in Pool 2, the former England Head Coach realises his side needs to get off to a winning start this Saturday
“It is a great group,” Robinson said, speaking to Sky Sports News.
“We had an outstanding group last year with Toulouse, Leicester and Leinster and it is the same this year. We are excited about the games that we've got.
“We have got Leinster at home first up and it is an important one. If we want to do anything in the tournament then we have to win at the weekend.”
This season the Heineken Cup Final will be held at Murrayfield – and unsurprisingly Robinson believes that is the ideal incentive for both Glasgow and his outfit to do well.
“It is a great tournament. I think with Edinburgh being a superb European city, it fits,” he said.
“It is very important for both Glasgow and Edinburgh to be successful in it.”
