Wales have received some sobering news following a memorable 21-18 victory over Australia as medics revealed that Jamie Roberts has sustained a fractured skull.

The Cardiff Blues centre collided with opposing captain Stirling Mortlock in the second minute of the game at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Mortlock immediately left the field to be replaced by Quade Cooper while Roberts continued for a further ten minutes after the incident before coming off.

And following the final whistle, Wales boss Warren Gatland has revealed that the powerful runner will be out of action for around six weeks.

Meanwhile, there is no word yet on the fate of Mortlock, who was attempting to intercept a Gareth Cooper pass, but coach Robbie Deans has confirmed his skipper is “up and about”.
