Rob Webber pens Sale extension
Sale Sharks have announced that hooker Rob Webber has extended his contract by a further 12 months, which will take him to the end of the 2020/21 season.
Webber joined the Sharks at the start of the 2016/17 Premiership season from Bath and has had an impact within the pack at Sale, rediscovering the form that earned him 16 England caps earlier in his career.
The powerful hooker made 21 appearances during his first season in the North West and has since gone on to make a further 45 appearances for the Sharks, scoring 11 tries in total.
This season, the front-rower has continued his rich vein of form, leading from the front with the invaluable experience he possesses, with the 32-year-old scoring six tries in 22 games. It puts him third on the club’s leading try-scorers tally behind Denny Solomona (9) and Chris Ashton (8).
Yorkshire-born Webber admitted he was ‘chuffed’ to agree a new deal, saying: ”I’m really chuffed to have extended my stay in Manchester. It’s a great city and my wife and I really enjoy living here.
“From a rugby point of view, it’s an exciting time to be a Shark. We’re learning every week, playing some good rugby and the squad are gaining a real understanding of what it takes to win at this level.
“As the squad continues to grow, I’m confident we can challenge for honours. I’m enjoying my rugby and I’m pleased with Dimes’ (Steve Diamond) and the coaches’ continued faith in me. It’s great to have signed an extension to my contract.”
Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond added: “We’re delighted that Rob has agreed to stay with us for a further season. He has been fantastic over the last couple of seasons and has really come into his own since joining.
“He puts in a lot of hard work day in day out and is extremely committed to the club and our vision. He is an integral part of the pack that we are building here at Sale and the experience he has in the Gallagher Premiership is second to none.”
