Ospreys and Wales international front-row Paul James has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 36 due to a shoulder injury.

Prop forward James, who won 66 caps for his country since making his Test bow in 2003, has also racked up over 200 matches in an Ospreys shirt.

He announced the news on Twitter as he calls time on a rugby career that saw him play at the 2011 World Cup and win a Six Nations Grand Slam.

“I’m sad to say my time has come to an end,” he wrote.

“After two shoulder ops and a lot of rehab I’m afraid that my shoulder hasn’t recovered.”

He added: “I look back with no regrets and loved every second of it.”

“I will miss the banter with the boys but hope to get a new buzz out of dipping my toes into coaching.”
