Retirement call from Redelinghuys

Springbok and Lions prop Julian Redelinghuys has announced his retirement from rugby with immediate effect due to a neck injury.

The 28-year-old fractured his neck whilst playing for the Golden Lions in their 2016 Currie Cup semi-final against the Free State Cheetahs.

And the front-row has decided to call time on his career, telling Sunday’s Rapport newspaper that he could not risk another neck injury.

“I am just glad I can still walk. It would have been selfish of me to continue playing. I could have ended up in a wheelchair (if I played again). I can still do everything, except play rugby,” he said.
