RA criticises “unacceptable” Israel Folau anti-gay post

Date published: April 10 2019 - Colin Newboult

Rugby Australia has described an Instagram post by Wallaby full-back Israel Folau, which states that gay people will go to hell, as “unacceptable.”

It is not the first time the 73-times capped international has caused outrage for his views on homosexuality, with Folau posting something similar just over a year ago.

Back then, the 30-year-old escaped punishment, although CEO Raelene Castle did remind him of his “obligation to use social media in a respectful way.”

However, the Waratahs back could now be in serious trouble, with the governing body enlisting the help of its ‘integrity unit’, who have begun an investigation into the matter.

“Rugby Australia is aware of a post made by Israel Folau on his Instagram account this afternoon,” a statement read.

“The content within the post is unacceptable. It does not represent the values of the sport and is disrespectful to members of the Rugby community.”
