Pumas pleased with Scotch scalp
Argentina centre Gonzalo Tiesi believed the Pumas were always in control of Santiago Phelan's first match in charge.
Argentina star Gonzalo Tiesi believed the Pumas were always in control of Santiago Phelan's first match in charge.
Scotland were within a point of the hosts late on, but the London Irish centre touched down for a try to put the result beyond doubt.
“We conceded a lot of penalties in our half and they converted them for points,” said Tiesi.
“That was the only reason that Scotland were close to us in the match, but they didn't break us or even trouble us too much, except on some counter-attacks
“It was very important achieving a triumph in the beginning of this new era. Scoring a try is always important, but I am happy because we won the match.”
Esteban Lozada said Argentina must improve their discipline and eradicate needless penalties from their game.
“Our biggest mistake was to give them so many penalties, but we have time to correct them,” said the lock.
“Now we have to keep on working to improve our display because we have the attitude needed.”
Flanker Alejandro Campos came off the bench to win his second cap and was delighted to play his part at the start of Phelan's regime.
“We played well,” he said. “It is only the first match and I think it is very positive to beat a team that has a lot of games. They have already played the Six Nations and we defeated them well.
“I feel that this is my debut. When they told me to get in I was really excited and I couldn't believe it. I am still I shock due this achievement. Despite the fact that I have played once against Chile, for me this is my first cap.”
