Premiership: Saracens taken over by investment consortium

A consortium of investors, including South African World Cup-winning former captain and Saracens player Francois Pienaar, has completed a £32m takeover of the London club.

The consortium, going by the name of Kimono House Limited, has bought a “controlling stake” in the Saracens group, which owns the club and their StoneX Stadium home. Saracens Mavericks netball team is also part of the group.

Formalities done

The takeover had already been announced in October, but was formally completed on Wednesday.

Nigel Wray, the club’s owner for 26 years until he stepped back as a part consequence of the salary cap breach scandal, retains “a significant minority shareholding”.

Pienaar, who led the Springboks to victory at the 1995 World Cup, made 44 appearances as a player-coach for Saracens.

Marco V. Masotti, the owner of South Africa’s Sharks rugby team, is also part of the six-person consortium, along with Dominic Silvester, Neil Golding, Nick Leslau and Paul O’Shea.
