Newcastle have re-signed lock Sebastian de Chaves, who has been plying his trade in Austin in Major League Rugby for two years.

The 32-year-old played a major role in helping Newcastle get out of the Championship in 2020, with stints at Wasps, Leicester, London Irish and Mont-de-Marsan also on his rugby CV.

‘Awesome feeling’

“My first spell at Newcastle was very enjoyable. It is an awesome feeling to be back in the Premiership,” he said.

“[The Premiership] is one of the best and most competitive leagues in the world.

“I would like to think I bring some experience and set-piece expertise, but I also just want to help the squad in any way I can to help the team perform – and be a great team-mate on and off the field.”

De Chaves is the fourth signing made by the Falcons this week with De Chaves’ South African compatriot Tian Schoeman joining from Bath, Ospreys fly-half Josh Thomas and Spain lock Josh Peters also joining ahead of next season.
