Premiership: Former Bath back Joe Maddock joins the club’s coaching staff

Former Bath utility back Joe Maddock has been appointed as the Premiership outfit’s new attack coach ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The New Zealander will return to the Recreation Ground-based club to be part of incoming head coach Johann van Graan‘s backroom staff.

Maddock will replace David Williams, who left Bath by mutual consent on February 21.

The 43-year-old Maddock will leave his current role at Toshiba Brave Lupus in Japan to return to Bath, where he made 130 playing appearances between 2004 and 2010.

“Bath has always been special to me and my family,” said Maddock.

“I love the club and I love the city. I’m looking forward to working with such a talented group of players and contributing to an exciting new era.”

Other new recruits

Worcester hooker Niall Annett, Munster full-back Matt Gallagher and Jersey Reds flanker Wesley White will all also join Bath next season.

“We are grateful to Toshiba for allowing Joe to return to Bath,” said chief executive Tarquin McDonald.

“Working under new head coach Johann Van Graan, he will add an extra dimension to a gifted and experienced coaching unit.

“Our recruitment process continues, with further signings to follow.

“We have been seeking players with talent and character, people who will share our resolve to drive the club back to the top of the league, and we will be delighted to welcome Niall, Matt and Wesley to the club later this year.”

Bath
