Premiership: Eight Worcester Warriors head for the exit

Melani Nanai heads a list of eight players set to leave Worcester this close season, after an injury-hit three years at Sixways.

Various injuries restricted the talented back three player to just 21 appearances in three seasons after he arrived from the Blues with some fanfare in 2019.

Forward turnover

Back-row forward Caleb Montgomery, props Marc Thomas and Joe Morris, and lock James Scott are the other members of the senior squad heading out of the door.

Incoming Worcester director of rugby Steve Diamond has already snapped up several forwards as he looks to shore up his new-look squad for next season’s Premiership campaign and forward casualties were inevitable.

Hooker Joe Richardson, loosehead prop Ben Murphy and lock Cheick Kone are leaving the Worcester academy at the end of this campaign, while flanker Sam Lewis had made his departure known some weeks ago.

“The end of the season inevitably means that we have to say goodbye to people – players, coaches and staff. It is not an easy time of the year but it is part of the cycle of professional rugby,” said Diamond.

“I have enjoyed working with all those who are moving on. They are all good blokes and I wish them all the very best for their future ventures.”
