Premiership: Bath snap up Munster flanker Chris Cloete

Bath have announced the signing of dynamic back-row Chris Cloete, who will join the club from Munster ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Flanker Cloete has struggled to nail down a regular starting jersey at the United Rugby Championship giants but his talent has never been doubted.

He has been with Munster for five seasons and will follow outgoing head coach Johann van Graan to the Premiership side at the end of the season.

Good addition for Bath

“Chris will bring a new dimension to an impressive group of back-row forwards, as we maintain our primary recruitment focus of adding power to the pack for next season. Negotiations with second-row forwards are continuing,” said Bath chief executive Tarquin McDonald on announcing the move.

Cloete, 31, joined Munster after stints with the Southern Kings, Western Province and the Pumas in South Africa and will be a good addition to Bath.

“To play in the Premiership has always been a clear ambition, and I look forward to making a significant contribution as Bath move towards the top of the league,” said the flanker.

“It is a fantastic club with great history, and the supporters deserve nothing less than a winning team.”
