Predictions: Opening wins for Wallabies and All Blacks

Date published: July 19 2019

Ahead of Saturday’s Rugby Championship matches, we’re putting our head on the block and picking our winners from the two games.

South Africa and Australia open proceedings in Johannesburg before Argentina host New Zealand in Buenos Aires, eyeing the holders’ scalp.

Elsewhere, there is the second match between Fiji and the Maori All Blacks that takes place in Rotorua as the latter outfit looks for revenge.

South Africa v Australia

Preview: The shortened Rugby Championship kicks off at Ellis Park on Saturday as the Springboks and Wallabies go head-to-head.

Prediction: This is a fantastic opportunity for the Wallabies to pick up a rare win on South African soil and if they play to their potential we believe they can nick this. Two home games then follow as they look to turn around a poor 2018 campaign. Australia by three.

Argentina v New Zealand

Preview: Will the Jaguares’ form reflect on Argentina in the coming weeks or is international rugby a different ball game altogether?

Prediction: The Pumas are full strength and also call in Nicolás Sánchez and Juan Figallo to their line-up to face a weakened New Zealand. However, there’s still ample class in this All Black side and we expect big games from the likes of Ardie Savea. New Zealand by six.

Maori All Blacks v Fiji

Preview: Fiji head coach John McKee has made several changes for their rematch with the Maori All Blacks, who rotate their line-up.

Prediction: Fiji are missing several of the star players who shone in Suva for this weekend’s fixture and with the Maori All Blacks at home and reeling after their recent defeat, we expect them to be much-improved at Rotorua International Stadium. Maori All Blacks by 10.
