Biarritz fly-half Julien Peyrelongue kicked a last-gasp penalty to snatch a Top 14 win from Bayonne, after beating their visitors 21-19 at Parc des Sports Aguilera on Tuesday.

Having led for the majority of the match, it was nearly the home side that had the carpet pulled out from underneath them after Bayonne hit the lead through a try and conversion by replacement Thibault Lacroix and Benjamin Boyet respectively with eight minutes remaining.

However, Peyrelongue stepped up with time up on the clock to kick his fifth penalty of the match and deny Bayonne at the death in fiery Basque derby that saw three yellow cards been shown.

Biarritz's victory – just their second in 11 games – takes them off the bottom of the Top 14 table, although they could return to the bottom should Lyon beat Montpellier on Wednesday.
