Pau have announced the sacking of former All Blacks fly-half Tom Taylor for leaving France without clearance during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The versatile player represented his country three times in 2013 before leaving New Zealand to join Toulon in 2015 and Pau the year after.

Taylor’s sacking comes after he went against a request to remain in France and instead departed on March 17, Pau confirmed in a statement.

The news comes after last week French rugby officials announced that this year’s Top 14 had been abandoned without promotion or relegation.

Taylor, 31, played 58 matches for the Crusaders in New Zealand from 2012 to 2015, covering fly-half, inside centre and full-back positions.
