Pau pick up elusive victory

Pau picked up a crucial first victory of the Top 14 campaign on Sunday as they overcame an in-form Lyon side 30-14 at Stade du Hameau.

Tries from Watisoni Votu (2) and Jale Vatubua saw them to a success that lifts them from 13th to 10th position after three league matches.

Pau were 27-7 ahead at the break thanks to a brace from Votu and one from centre Vatubua, with fly-half Tom Taylor slotting over 12 points.

Lyon did lead early on thanks to flank Dylan Cretin's try but Votu soon responded for Pau, with Vatubua and Votu again extending the buffer.

Taylor made it 30-7 soon after the turnaround but a try from Lyon flank Liam Gill brought the visiting side back into matters slightly at 30-14.

But Pau easily held on to pick up the four points that breaks their 2017/18 season duck while Lyon suffer their first defeat of the campaign.
