Dan Thomas, Andy Uren and a penalty try, together with penalties from Callum Sheedy (2) and Ian Madigan, sealed a famous 28-24 win in front of 17,000 supporters at Ashton Gate on Friday.
And Lam praised his side’s character in toppling an in-form Gloucester side.
“I’m really proud of the boys because a win was what we’ve needed for a while,” said the head coach.
“We’ve been playing some good rugby, but we were killing ourselves by losing ball and making mistakes.
“We started extremely well, that’s what we aimed to do. We put a lot of energy into the game.
“We had belief in our game and what brings it alive is the energy.”
“I’m really proud of our performance. People will look at the result, but we know this has been coming. This win is based a lot on our culture,” he added.
“We’ve always had a lot of belief in what we do and I’m excited where this team is going. We got off to a good start and that was key for us.”
