O’Mahony to decide on future by New Year

Munster captain Peter O’Mahony has revealed that he is looking to resolve his future by the New Year, with talks still ongoing between the player’s agent and the IRFU.

The Ireland back-rower reportedly rejected a new two-year deal last week, leading to suggestions that the 28-year-old may be seeking to move abroad.

Having already seen Simon Zebo sign for Racing 92, the governing body will be concerned should another of their prized assets decide to go overseas.

Although clubs from France and England are interested, O’Mahony is ‘hopeful’ of re-signing with the IRFU and insists that a decision will be made soon.

“This time of the year you get offers from clubs in France and England,” the flanker said.

“Look, I’m going to leave my agents to sort all that side of it. It’s very important for me to concentrate on two big tests this weekend and the following weekend against Leicester.

“I’m hoping to have it wrapped up one way or the other regardless by the New Year.

“It’s professional sport, it’s a short career and, as I said, hopefully it will be done by the New Year one way or the other. That’s for my agents to deal with. I’ll leave it at that.”
