Promising talent Peceli Yato has signed a new contract with Clermont, staying with the Top 14 leaders until 2020.

Yato, 23, has won five caps for Fiji and joined les Jaunards back in 2013 as part of their training centre in Fiji. Yato’s original deal was meant to expire in 2018, but the back-row has now signed on for two further seasons.

Despite plenty of competition in the back row from among others Damien Chouly, Alexandre Lapandry, Viktor Kolelishvili and Fritz Lee, the Fijian has made multiple appearances this season in both the Top 14 and Champions Cup.

“It’s very good news,” said Clermont Auvergne boss Franck Azéma.

“Peceli has extraordinary physical abilities and even though he’s still a young player, he’s capable of having the ‘X Factor’ we’re looking for.

“He is a young man who has a positive influence on the Fijian community of the club and will become a leader in the years to come. We are very pleased to be able to count on him for the next three seasons.”

Yato said: “I came here with the dream to succeed at this great club. This is starting to become a reality.”

“I know that I still have a lot of experience to acquire and also need to progress mentally to become more effective, but I have already learned a lot.

“I have only one ambition, to give my all to help the club to win titles.

“We have everything here to do it: the staff, the infrastructure, the fans too. Clermont has become my second family and I am very happy to be part of it for the next three seasons. “
