World Rugby rankings: How the All Blacks, Springboks and England’s wins impacted the standings
England's Henry Pollock and the latest World Rankings
Following the first weekend of the November internationals, here’s how the action impacted the World Rugby rankings.
England, New Zealand, South Africa, and Scotland notched up victories over Australia, Ireland, Japan and the USA, respectively.
The results this November are particularly important, with the 2027 Rugby World Cup draw taking place early next month.
England move ahead of France
The most notable change in the World Rugby rankings from Saturday’s action saw England move ahead of France into fourth position after earning 0.40 points from their 25-7 victory over Australia at Allianz Stadium.
This meant that the Wallabies lost 0.40 rating points, losing ground on Argentina in sixth place with the World Cup hosts now 0.92 points behind the Pumas.
Meanwhile, the Springboks thrashed Japan 61-7 at Wembley Stadium with Rassie Erasmus’ charges scoring nine tries to the Brave Blossoms’ one.
Despite the comprehensiveness of the victory, South Africa did not earn any ranking points due to the differential between the Springboks and Japan, 18.95 points. The same was true for Scotland, who earned no ranking boost despite hammering the USA 85-0 at Murrayfield.
The All Blacks did earn 0.98 points for their 26-13 win over Ireland in Chicago, with New Zealand now boasting a 2.15 point buffer in second place. That lead would have been 3.13 points had Leicester Fainga’anuku’s last-minute try was not ruled out due to a forward pass.
Therefore, the only team that improved on their ranking position from the weekend’s action was England, who moved ahead of France into fourth position.
Les Bleus will have the opportunity to move back up the standings when they host the Springboks at the Stade de France next weekend.
