Worcester have signed Northampton Saints hooker Matt Williams ahead of the 2016/17 Premiership season.

The 24-year-old, who is English qualified, has made 18 appearances for Saints and was part of the 2013/14 Premiership-winning side as well as last season's table-toppers.

Originally a flanker, South African-born Williams played in the Sharks Academy between 2010 and 2012 and also trained with South Africa Sevens before being picked up by Northampton in 2013.

Worcester Director of Rugby Dean Ryan said: "Matt has been trapped at Saints behind the likes of Dylan Hartley and is eager to play regular first-team rugby.

"He is an ambitious young player who has been learning from England's captain and other international stars which will add further competition to the number two spot as we look to drive standards across the squad."

Williams added: "I'm a big admirer of what Dean and the coaches are building at Warriors and the facilities and infrastructure are something any aspiring rugby player would want to be part of.

"Everything is in place for the club to succeed and I can't wait to be a part of what I'm sure is going to be an exciting journey."
