Former England forwards coach John Wells has extended his contract with Newcastle and will continue as head coach.

In his first season as Falcons head coach, Wells inspired some impressive displays from his team, and has been rewarded with a three-year contract extension.

The new season will be the former England forwards and Leicester Tigers coach fourth full year at Kingston Park, after joining the club in February 2012. The former back row is delighted to extend his stay in the North East.

"I’m chuffed to bits to agree the new deal and that I can continue with the work that we have started," said Wells.

"We went a long way last season, with the club now playing an entertaining and exciting brand of rugby and now we want to see more wins.

"We’re pretty realistic, we were disappointed with where we finished in the league last year and we’re looking at turning some of those narrow losses into more positive results.

"We’re under no illusions about how tough the league is but we’re confident that the work we’re doing now will allow us to be a good side to watch and support."
