Welch lauds Falcons victory

Newcastle captain Will Welch hailed his team-mates after their impressive 26-14 Premiership victory over Leicester at Kingston Park on Friday.

The result moved the Falcons off the bottom of the table as they stunned the Tigers in a fine showing, highlighted during the first-half.

"It was an outstanding effort from all the boys. We kept our composure, kept our discipline, and stayed committed for the full 80 minutes, and that won us the game," he told Newcastle's website after the excellent win.

This was the Falcons' fifth straight triumph on home soil and Welch revealed that it's a massive confidence booster for the team.

"We've got some good form at home now and I think we're in good form in general. We're starting to show that we're moving forward and that when we perform for 80 minutes we're more than a match for anyone, and we showed that against Tigers," he added.

"It helps that we've got a bit of momentum. We've stuck with the same team for the last few weeks bar a couple of changes. And that consistency in selection when you're playing well is good; it helps because the boys know what everyone else is doing and it breeds confidence.

"We've just got to make sure we keep that going, especially at home."

He added: "Being captain is always easier when you're winning! Everything is much more enjoyable obviously, but we've just got to make sure we don't rest on our laurels.

"It's another big game for us next weekend against Northampton so we'll enjoy this win but back on the horse ready for Sunday."
