Siya Kolisi marked his return to the Sharks powering over for a try 27 minutes into the United Rugby Championship clash against the Glasgow Warriors on Saturday.

The game was the Sharks’ first home fixture of the 2024/25 seasons and to mark the occasion, head coach John Plumtree welcomed the return of the heavy artillery.

That being all the Springboks stars on the Sharks‘ roster with Kolisi joined by fellow Rugby Championship winners Ox Nche, Bongi Mbonambi, Vincent Koch, Eben Etzebeth, Makazole Mapimpi, Lukhanyo Am and Aphelele Fassi.

The Sharks got off to a slow start in slippery conditions and found themselves behind on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when Glasgow Warriors scrum-half George Horne cantered over the line off the pass of Stafford McDowall.

However, the hosts quickly went about getting their first five-pointer of the match with a lineout deep inside the defending URC champions’ 22.

Glasgow initially defended the Sharks’ maul well and managed to splitter through, which led to Etzebeth breaking off and having a crack at the line. However, the Bok lock was stopped just short.

The Sharks kept it tight with a carry hard to the line before Jaden Hendrikse spun it out to the Springboks captain, who managed to get on the outside shoulder of McDowall and pumped the legs to power over.

Kolisi returned to the Sharks after just one season with French Top 14 club Racing 92. The double World Cup-winning skipper joined signed a long-term deal to join the French giants after the 2023 global tournament.

However, he grew unhappy with life in Paris and things really turned sour when he was publically criticised by club owner Jacky Lorenzetti who slammed the Boks skipper for gaining weight and losing shape and said he was ‘transparent’ in matches.
