Springbok hopeful and Stormers prodigy Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu showed incredible defensive awareness and work-rate at a key time for his side as he crucially kept the Lions out in their 29-24 win at home.

At the time the Stormers were a man down and the Lions could smell blood in the water, launching attack after attack. There were 18 minutes left on the clock and the Capetonians held a one-point lead when some slick offloading from the Lions saw Edwill van der Merwe in space with no one in front of him.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who was playing full-back, launched himself at the Lion managing to ankle-tap the star. Van der Merwe got up again after not being held until he was brought down right by the Stormers line. The wing managed a lovely offload to number eight Francke Horne who looked certain to score but it was not to be as the Stormers starlet had gotten back to his feet, tracked back and nailed the big forward ball and all, taking him into touch.

It was an incredible defensive effort powered by desperation and with the Stormers on the ropes at the time there is no telling how important his efforts were.

Showing huge promise

The former junior Springbok skipper had a solid game all around, assisting a try whilst controlling the backfield well considering he had to cover for wing Angelo Davids who was sent off for a horror tackle.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who has been in all the Springboks alignment camps this year, made good steps towards the Test arena and will have another chance to show off his ability in the quarter-final for the Stormers where the versatile superstar will need to pick up the slack left by the injury to the world-class Damian Willemse.

The Stormers do not know yet who they will face in the quarter-finals with some games still to be played but what is certain is that the Cape side will be on the road which has been an Achilles heel. The URC I champions will have to find solutions to that if they want to repeat their heroics from the inaugural season.
