WATCH: Shaun Stevenson try sets up impressive Chiefs win over Highlanders
Chiefs flyer Shaun Stevenson continued his fine form in Super Rugby Pacific as he scored a well-taken try in his side’s 28-7 victory over the Highlanders in Hamilton on Friday.
Stevenson showed his class as he crossed for a hat-trick of five-pointers in the Chiefs’ triumph over Moana Pasifika in last weekend’s Super Round in Melbourne and followed that up with another impressive try-scoring performance as he was rewarded with a brace of tries against the Highlanders.
The Chiefs made a dominant start and in the 52 minute – with them holding an 11-0 lead – they launched an attack midway between the Highlanders‘ 10-metre line and their 22.
Stevenson ran onto a pass from Rameka Poihipi and glided through a gaping hole in the visitors’ defence. He soon found himself deep inside his opponents’ 22 and outpaced the cover defence before crossing in the left-hand corner.

Prior to that the Chiefs had done most of the attacking and held an 8-0 lead at half-time after Etene Nanai-Seturo opened the scoring with a try in the sixth minute before Damian McKenzie added a penalty 20 minutes later.
The home side continued to attack after the interval and extended their lead via another McKenzie penalty shortly after the restart before Stevenson crossed for his try.
The Highlanders struck back via a Mosese Dawai try on the hour-mark but the Chiefs finished stronger and in the 74th minute Stevenson went over for his second five-pointer.
McKenzie added the extras which clinched their third successive bonus-point victory which consolidates the Chiefs’ spot at the top of the Super Rugby Pacific standings.
