Former Saracens and England star Owen Farrell has opened his try-scoring account for Racing 92 in the Top 14 with a clever try.

Farrell made the switch to Paris this season, and has played seven games for the club to date.

It was a fast start to Racing’s Top 14 clash with Perpignan on Saturday for the Wigan-native, as he crossed the whitewash with just three minutes played. After the ball fell to the floor, the former Saracens ace reacted quickest to hack it forward.

With the Perpignan defence caught off-guard by Farrell’s clever grubber, the Englishman found himself unopposed as he raced towards the ball, and despite stumbling when picking it up, he dotted down under the posts to open his try-scoring account across the Channel.

The try set the Parisians on their way to a solid 30-23 win over Perpignan, just their fourth of the new season.

Farrell’s half-back partner Nolann le Garrec was once again the star of the show for Racing, as he notched a brilliant haul of 20 tries thanks to three conversions, three penalties and a try. Elsewhere, South African forward Hacjivah Dayimani also got his name on the scoresheet with a try.

The victory takes Racing into eighth place in the Top 14 table, but it’s been a fairly tough start to the new campaign for Stuart Lancaster’s side. They have suffered tough losses to Castres, Bordeaux, La Rochelle and Bayonne so far, but things now appear on the up with Racing winning two of their past three fixtures including today’s victory over Perpignan.
