Watch: Louis Bielle-Biarrey breaks record as he gasses former England star to score 'incredible' 70 metre try
Louis Bielle-Biarrey scored a terrific individual try in Bordeaux’s 32-20 win over Lyon on Saturday, as the home side continued their charge towards the summit of the Top 14 table.
Bordeaux had taken an early and comprehensive lead over their rivals when Bielle-Biarrey scored his first, making it 17-0 to the hosts. With the game firmly in their hands, they took their foot off the gas, allowing their visitors back into the game through the boot of former London Irish star Paddy Jackson and two tries from scrum half Esteban Gonzalez.
With just 15 minutes left on the clock, Bordeaux took advantage of a Lyon yellow card, scoring two final tries and a penalty goal to secure the victory, including this incredible 70-metre effort by Bielle-Biarrey.

Collecting the ball off Gonzalez from a rolling maul, Bielle-Biarrey raced down the left flank, outpacing the five chasing defenders – including former Exeter Chiefs and England star Sam Simmonds – before evading the covering tackle from Lyon wing, Monty Ioane.
At just 22 years old, Bielle-Biarrey has now become Bordeaux’s highest-ever try-scorer with 47, and if he can continue his current rate of scoring – 39 tries in his last 35 matches – then more records will continue to be smashed, both in club and international colours.
Across the Top 14
Across the Top 14, Clermont cleaned out US Montauban in a 16-try thriller that widened the gap at the bottom of the table. Montpellier defeated the visiting La Rochelle in the mid-table clash, while Stade Francais secured their spot at the head of the table, defeating bottom-placed Perpignan away from home.
Toulon also made a big statement with a victory over Pau to hold their second-place spot in the table, while Racing 92 failed to secure the win away to Castres, making the middle of the table ever more congested.
