England lock Ollie Chessum downing a pint live on TV after Premiership victory
International second-row Ollie Chessum endeared himself to the watching public by having a bit of fun following Leicester Tigers’ Premiership win.
The lock forward played a key role in the Tigers’ New Year’s Eve victory over Bath which kept them in the play-off hunt going into 2024.
Chessum was at his physical best as Leicester overcame the West Country outfit with a 35-22 bonus-point triumph at Welford Road on Sunday.
Post-match interview
He was interviewed on TNT Sports following the conclusion of the Premiership encounter and was asked about his plans for New Year.
As they wrapped up the post-match chat, presenter Craig Doyle said: “Have a great night, you better see that off though,” pointing at the pint the England forward was holding.
The 23-year-old asked, “right here and now?” before Doyle responded: “You can do what you want with it. Go on, it’s New Year.”
Chessum seemingly relished the challenge and duly downed the pint in impressive speed to the applause of the fans that had gathered to watch the interview.
Doyle then jokingly added the disclaimer, “I am not condoning this kind of behaviour by the way. Drink sensibly etc etc.”

“Ollie Chessum for PM”
Chessum delighted those watching, with Tight Five Rugby captioning the video on X, formerly Twitter, “Ollie Chessum for PM” after his moment at the end of Sunday’s clash.
Others simply could not believe the size of the lock’s hands and the speed with which he drank the pint, thinking that he was holding a smaller glass.
“Guys got such big mittens, and drinks so quick, I thought it was a half pint on first view,” one person wrote.
The Rolling Maul rated Chessum’s pint drinking skills, giving him high marks for using the correct hand and the lack of spillage.
“8/10 – sound technique & speed, minor spillage, bonus point for head tap,” they wrote.
