Scotland winger Duhan van der Merwe has scored one of the greatest Six Nations tries of all time against England at Twickenham.

Gregor Townsend’s side charged into the lead in the 15th minute, with Huw Jones scoring the first try off a neat grubber from Sione Tuipulotu.

England responded swiftly and in a similar fashion as Marcus Smith chipped the ball out to the wing to Max Malins, who dived on the ball over the line.

While the two opening two tries were certainly brilliant, the third was comfortably the best of the lot and one dubbed as ‘one of the greatest tries in Calcutta Cup history’ by ITV Sport’s commentary.

Jack van Poortvliet cleared the ball over Scotland’s halfway line from inside his 22.

One of the greatest tries

Kyle Steyn fielded the kick without any pressure and flung the ball out to Van der Merwe in what could be the most straightforward try assist of all time.

The Scotland and Edinburgh flyer looked up before charging forward, beating the first two England defenders, Joe Marchant and Ollie Chessum, with extreme ease.

He raced into the 22 and delivered a delightful side step to beat Freddie Steward, fended off Alex Dombrandt and thundered over the line to complete the incredible try.

Van der Merwe started his run from 58 metres out and beat five defenders en route to scoring the incredible try.

The incredible score gave Scotland a 5-12 advantage after 29 minutes, with Russell’s conversion attempt coming back off the left post.

However, England would hit back through another Malins try and a penalty from Owen Farrell as Steve Borthwick’s side took a 13-12 half-time lead.
