Prolific France and Bordeaux-Begles wing Damian Penaud showed exactly why he is rated as one of the best in the world by scoring a sneaky try at the expense of Les Bleus teammate Gregory Alldritt.

The score was well in favour of Bordeaux at 29-7 against La Rochelle when the moment occurred just before the hour mark.

Always be aware

Bordeaux won a penalty near their 22-metre line and while some of their players are celebrating another takes a quick tap and punts the ball down field.

Initially, it appears to be a waste with the kick not going out and slowing right down just past La Rochelle’s try-line. Skipper Alldritt was casually jogging back to deal with the kick and was clearly unaware of the rapidly approaching Penaud who clearly had a sniff that something could happen.

Alldritt continued casually approaching and was still unaware, as he went to collect the ball Penaud flew through the air in a full swan dive to ground it for a try! Alldritt immediately puts his head in his hand knowing that he has been caught out.

Tough to concede

It is a pretty bad look for Alldritt who surely got a dressing down from Ronan O’Gara in the changeroom after the moment that could well describe their season. While on the other hand, it is just reward for Penaud who is the kind of player to continuously chase seemingly lost causes and to get a reward in this way.

Bordeaux ended up running out 34-14 winners in that game which took them to third on the Top 14 table with just three rounds of the regular season to go that will see Penaud’s side facing Stade Francais, Perpignan and Oyonnax before the knockout rounds get underway.
