The crowd at a Championship game between London Scottish and Cambridge burst into collective laughter after a brilliant public announcement.

As the players prepared for a line-out after the ball was kicked into touch, the announcer began calling for a Stuart Atkinson. The intrigue grows as to why Mr Atkinson is being called up with the announcement continuing to say that his “distressed” wife Nicola Atkinson has been looking for him using “find my iPhone”.

“We have a call from a very distressed Mrs Nicola Atkinson who has been tracking you on ‘Find My iPhone’. She said: ‘You said you were going to John Lewis in Kingston!” the announcer said.

Long drive home

The laughter only grows when the announcer continues to share more details as it emerges that Stuart Atkinson had told his wife that he was visiting “John Lewis in Kingston”. It ends with the announcer confirming that the man will in fact be taken home.

In the midst of all the laughter and chaos, the game continued with Cambridge claiming a dramatic 26-28 win away from home.

Reactions

It was a hilarious incident expertly handled by the announcer but not Stuart Atkinson clearly, and users on X weighed in on his efforts.

The general consensus was that it was an “amateur mistake” for Atkinson to have left his phone on to allow the tracking whilst others asked for a welfare check on the man who was clearly about to have a long drive home.

One user took it upon himself to offer thoughts and prayers for Stuart at this time in a funny comment.

The pick of the bunch for us is a user doing his best to protect Atkinson by claiming someone had taken his phone to the rugby!
