Corey Toole scores for the Brumbies in win over Highlanders in Super Rugby Pacific

Brumbies speedster Corey Toole scored a brilliant solo try in his team’s 48-32 win over the Highlanders in Super Rugby Pacific on Sunday.

The wing received the ball on the left-hand touchline in his own half with not much space to work with. He used his pace to get around the outside before chipping it ahead. Toole showed tremendous speed to run onto the ball that bounced awkwardly for the covering defender.

It was a lucky bounce but a try only made possible by Toole’s awareness and speed.

It was Englishman Freddie Burns who opened the scoring for the Highlanders with a penalty in the 11th minute before the Brumbies responded with a Len Ikitau try two minutes later, with Noah Lolesio missing the conversion.

Highlander Jona Nareki showed his evasive running with a well-taken try in the 18th minute as Burns added the extras. Typical to the clash, the Brumbies traded another blow through a converted Jahrome Brown try a minute later.

The visitors then threw another punch at the Brumbies through Dan Lienert-Brown five minutes later before Burns nailed another conversion.

Brumbies second-row Darcy Swain found his way over for a rare try just before the half-hour mark and Lolesio made no mistake from the tee.

Burns kicked three points on the stroke of half-time in the last points of the first period until Thomas Umaga-Jensen scored six minutes after the break, but Burns missed his mark on this occasion.

Toole responded with his first try only three minutes later with a converted try before Highlanders star Folau Fakatava responded just before the hour mark with a converted try.

It was all the Brumbies from there as Toole crossed for his second, and loose forward Pete Same grabbed a brace before the end of play. Lolesio completed all three conversions and a penalty in the 70th minute to ensure a Brumbies win.
