However, he had to wait until the match against Australia to score his first try. From the back of the scrum, the nibble scrum-half – sweeper in sevens – sped past the first attempted tackle before dummying a pass and racing away for a stunning first score.

France would go on to claim a convincing 31-5 victory over Australia, which meant that they topped their pool and set up a play-off match with Ireland.
Dupont rose to the occasion for France again as he scored the match-winning try for the side in the clash with Ireland.
With the scores level at 5 apiece and time up on the clock, he caught the Irish defence napping as he dummied to the right and exploited the space on the left to score in the corner.
His try sealed a 12-5 victory following Rayan Rebbadj’s conversion and booked France’s route into the cup semi-finals.

“All the action on the field makes me more confident. I have to spend time on the field and spend time with the guys to get to know them better. I have to learn every minute when I am on the field,” Dupont said after the win over Ireland.
“I played sevens a lot when I was 16, 17 years old. After I became a pro, it was more difficult to play sevens, so I just watched the game on TV, and I watched a lot of players who are here now. It’s a pleasure to play against them.”
“There are very fast guys, and they’ve known this game for a very long time. I’m new to the series, so I have to learn. I have to do my best from the first game until the last.”
