Widely regarded as an inspirational leader who puts the team first, Springboks captain Siya Kolisi gave another example of that trait at the World Cup Final.

South Africa were hanging on to their 12-11 lead in the closing stages of the game and had to do it with a man down due to Cheslin Kolbe being sin-binned.

It was a torturous wait for Kolbe on the sidelines and the TV cameras often showed the wing with his head in his shirt as he could not watch the drama.

A horrible watch

New Zealand were pressing with time ticking on at the Stade de France before All Blacks centre Anton Lienert-Brown fumbled and the Boks saw out the game.

After a scrum reset South Africa managed to kill the match after referee Wayne Barnes adjudged the ball to be unplayable following calling a maul in contact.

That sparked scenes of jubilation from the Springboks and new footage has emerged of Kolisi’s first port of call as he headed straight for a watching Kolbe.

Clearly Kolisi knew what Kolbe would have been going through on the sidelines so his decision to seek him out showed more quality leadership from the flank.

It must have been an agonising stint on the touchline for Kolbe and he looked somewhat stunned at full-time as the rest of his team sprinted on to the pitch.

Kolisi seeking him was definitely a moment the wing would have appreciated as Kolbe then took a knee to reflect on achieving his second Rugby World Cup win.

Fourth World Cup win

Indeed, the Boks became only the second team in history to seal back-to-back global titles and the first nation to win the Webb Ellis Cup on four occasions.

Kolisi has yet to decide whether he will continue his Test career next year, as he moves to French Top 14 team Racing 92, but at 32, he still has time on his side.
