Alun Wyn Jones’ career is quickly coming to a close, but that didn’t stop him from putting on a show during the Barbarians’ clash with the World XV.

Eddie Jones picked the Welsh legend as his captain for the fixture, in what was his first appearance for the famous invitational side.

Alun Wyn fully embraced the Barbarians’ flair and freedom with ball in hand and produced some sublime offloads as he also spent some time out wide for the men in Black and White.

The muscular juggler

In the first half, he produced this stunner for his lock partner, Stephan Lewies, to score the Barbarians’ fourth try.

The Barbarians’ Twitter account was on top form too, and tweeted the following in reaction to the try: “That was a stunning score. When Eddie leaps off the bench clapping you know it’s a peach. We go 50 metres via about 8 carries & 7 sumptuous offloads. If anyone is allergic to flair, then skip the highlights for that one.”

They later added: “Alun Wyn Jones is offloading like a muscular juggler.”

He followed that up with another brilliant offload after a cross-kick from Gareth Anscombe.

He plucked the ball out of the sky and managed to get the ball away with a no-look over the head offload to Steven Luatua.

Jones shocked the rugby world when he announced his retirement from international rugby just months out from the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

In a post on social media, he wrote: “Having been selected in this year’s preliminary Rugby World Cup squad, and after ongoing dialogue with the coaching staff and WRU (Welsh Rugby Union), I have decided to step away from the international game.

“So, after 17 years, I look back on special memories with Welsh greats and future Welsh greats.”
