Wasps one step closer to sensational return following latest development

Wasps have secured a plot of land to build a new stadium.
Historic English team Wasps have taken a giant step forward to a potential return to action, with the club securing land to build a new stadium.
The six-time Premiership champions collapsed in 2022 following financial turmoil, but they could be about to make a sensational return to the professional game.
Wasps edge closer to return following new land acquisition
Kent has long been seen as the spiritual home of Wasps – despite the club moving to Coventry in 2014 – and it appears they will now set up shop in the county after agreeing a 10-year option on some land in Swaley.
Commenting on the news, owner Christopher Holland said: “It is rewarding that we have managed to achieve this milestone with the support of key stakeholders.
“It brings our aspiration of a new home in the region closer and hopefully demonstrates our determination to recover Wasps sustainably.”
The news also comes off the back of their application for a spot in next season’s Championship.
“Our efforts have always been focused on returning Wasps to a league that shares our values and to be able to compete at the highest level,” said Holland on their desire to play in Tier 2 next season.
“Submitting our expression of interest for Tier 2 is a key milestone in our recovery.”
Holland is also the current owner of Worcester Warriors, and they too have applied for a spot in the Championship for the 2025/26 season, as have London Irish.
All three clubs went bust during the 2021/22 season, which resulted in the Premiership being reduced to a 10-team league.
Wasps had also been touted for a move to The Valley – where League One outfit Charlton Athletic play – in an effort to take up a spot in the newly expanded division, but look to be making Kent their long-term home.
Wasps history
Wasps are one of England’s most decorated clubs. They have won a staggering 12 major titles in their history, including six Premiership titles, two European Cups and three Premiership Cups.
Even in recent times, they have been a force to contend with, and were in the Premiership final as recently as 2020.
