Wales to bring ‘no fear policy’ to Twickenham against ‘beatable’ England

Wales attack coach Alex King feels his team do not have to fear England when the sides meet in their highly anticipated Six Nations Test at Twickenham on Saturday.

King, who represented England as a fly-half at Test level, believes a “no fear policy” will stand Wales in good stead if they want to shock the Red Rose on their home turf.

Poor Six Nations start

Wales started the Six Nations poorly as they were trailing Scotland 20-0 at half-time in their Championship opener in Cardiff last week and they went further behind when their opponents scored a converted try early in the second half.

However, Warren Gatland‘s troops launched a stunning fightback but fell just short as Scotland held on for a 27-26 victory.

Wales have a huge task against England, who started their campaign with a 27-24 win over Italy.

Although they had to dig deep for that narrow triumph, England head into this weekend’s clash in a confident mood as they have not lost to Wales at Twickenham since suffering a 28-25 loss to them at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Despite that statistic, King is convinced Steve Borthwick’s charges are beatable.

“They’ve (England) certainly had a shift in mindset in their defence,” he said. “They bring a huge amount of line speed, we saw that against Italy.

“They’re always going to have a good forward pack, it’s in their DNA, with George Ford controlling things at 10. They’ve got a decent team, finishing third in the World Cup is testament to that.”

King, who won five Tests caps for England between 1997 and 2003, knows that England have several attacking threats in their squad.

Committed to Wales

Despite his English background, King is fully committed to the Welsh cause.

“I feel myself as an honorary Welshman now. I’ve been here in the job over a year,” he added. “The World Cup was an incredible experience and I’ve started to learn a few of the Welsh songs as well.

“It’s important to show the lads that England are a good team, but that they’re not unbeatable. That’s the reality.”
