Wales dealt mixed injury news ahead of Scotland clash while ‘big player’ with ‘point to prove’ in contention to return
Gareth Anscombe has been given the all clear for Wales but Josh Adams is ruled out.
Wales have been dealt a blow ahead of their Six Nations fixture with Scotland at Murrayfield after it was confirmed that experienced wing Josh Adams will miss the game.
The 29-year-old back, who did not play against Ireland last time out due to a hamstring injury, hasn’t recovered and will therefore miss the Round Four clash on Saturday.
Adams‘ absence is likely to see Tom Rogers and Ellis Mee once again line up as the starting wings after the duo impressed at the Principality Stadium in the previous outing.
Gareth Anscombe boost
There was, however, some positive news on the injury front in the Wales camp ahead of the Six Nations match as fly-half Gareth Anscombe has been handed the all clear.
“Gareth is fine and good to go,” Wales scrum coach Adam Jones told reporters.
“It’s good to have the voice. He came in as if he hadn’t been away. It’s been good to have him leading it.”
Anscombe, who was recalled to the squad by interim head coach Matt Sherratt for the Ireland match, impressed in the number 10 jersey as he added direction in the role.
He will therefore be pivotal to the Welsh cause if they are to finally end their disastrous losing streak on the international stage, which now stands at 15 straight defeats.

Wales could also be bolstered by the return from injury of hooker and 2025 British & Irish Lions tour hopeful Dewi Lake after he has been sidelined with a bicep problem.
“Dewi has been excellent and it is good to have him back,” added Jones.
“He’s a former captain and has been a big player for Wales in the last few years.
On the prospect of Lake possibly making a late push into Andy Farrell’s squad that will head for Australia, coach Jones believes he’ll have a “point to prove” on Saturday.
“He’s been mentioned in certain [Lions] squads. He’s got a point to prove, that’s the beauty of this year,” he said.
Lions opportunity
“Anyone who plays well in the Six Nations has a chance to tour in the summer.
“There are a few boys in our squad who are in the mix and he’s one of them.”
Wales currently sit bottom of the Six Nations standings on one point after three straight losses and after facing Scotland they will end their campaign at home to England.
