The Fijian Rugby Union has been reinstated to the World Rugby Council with immediate effect, following recommendations from the Fiji Oversight Committee.

Fiji was initially dismissed from the board in May of last year; however after the creation of a new constitution and new governance structure they have been reinstated.

This follows a lengthy process of re-structuring for the Fijian Rugby Union, which will allow the Pacific Island nation to have a much greater position in World Rugby moving forward.

Commenting on the news, Peter Mazey, Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support of World Rugby and the commitment shown by our stakeholders during this process.

He added: “The adoption of our new constitution and governance framework is a testament to our dedication to moving Fiji Rugby forward. This reinstatement is not just a victory for our Union but for all our players, coaches, and fans who have stood by us during this period.”

“This development allows us to strengthen our ties within the global rugby community and to continue our mission of growing the game of rugby in Fiji.

“We look forward to collaborating with our fellow council members to contribute positively to the sport on both a national and international level.”

Following re-joining the council, Fiji now have full voting privileges once again. In addition to this, level three-match official courses will once again take place on the island after a five-year hiatus.
